Why Phi Kappa Tau
Purdue Phi Tau emphasizes personal growth, academic success, professional momentum, and community impact.
A chapter culture for men who want to ship, lead, study seriously, and make the most of Purdue.
Actives and alumni connect around internships, co-ops, full-time roles, leadership, and practical advice.
Service, philanthropy, and chapter work are treated with an execution mindset: plan it, build it, run it, improve it.
The chapter's strength has always depended on undergraduates and alumni staying connected across generations.
Lambda Chapter
Phi Kappa Tau's Lambda Chapter was the eleventh chapter of the fraternity. Its story runs from a Purdue local fraternity to a national brotherhood of men of distinction.
1919
The Purdue chapter began as Beta Xi Alpha, a local fraternity founded by sophomore agricultural students.
1920
Phi Kappa Tau was established on Purdue's campus on November 20 as the fraternity's eleventh chapter.
1921
The chapter initiated 20 undergraduate men and 3 faculty advisors at chartering, then added 13 more men in Spring 1921.
1927
The English Tudor-style chapter house was built across from the Purdue engineering mall and served Phi Tau for nearly 80 years.
2012
A group of roughly 40 men came together to recharter Lambda Chapter and bring Phi Kappa Tau back to Purdue's campus.
Today
Purdue Phi Tau carries forward as a social fraternity with a growing active chapter and alumni base.
Current Chapter
The current Lambda Chapter presents itself as Purdue's premier engineering fraternity with the motto Work Hard, Play Hard. Its public chapter site lists 75 active members, a 3.4 chapter GPA, and more than 2,600 alumni.
Alumni Connection
